It was only a few years ago that the Lord was leading Melanie and I to consider returning to America after 16 years of IMB service in Tokyo, Japan.  It was one of the most difficult decisions we have ever made.  It was far more difficult to return from the field than it was to respond to God's call to go to the field.  Yet, in the rear view mirror, I look back and realize the Lord was in those moments of stress, leading us to a missionary call in the USA.

Now we are adjusted to living in a new land called America.  I am so grateful for the years of experience and training given to me by the IMB. I call on my SC training daily as I work with people groups from all over the globe.  The mission field has come to Houston, Texas in a way that was so unexpected some 25 years ago.  In His foreknowledge, He trained us in a distant land to meet the needs of the nations He would bring to America,  What a plan that only God could make.

I'm praying for my IMB brothers and sisters who are praying through the decision of returning back to America.  I can assure you that if He calls you, He will use you, your training, and your experience to reach the nations.  There are many places in America where only you can fulfill the purposes of the Kingdom.  I'm praying that for some of IMB brothers and sisters that their next place of service may be Houston, Texas.  Life as a missionary in America is awesome!  --IN HIM, Buddy Brents

April 27, 2015
Good evening!

I wanted to ask you all to be praying and rejoicing with us about several opportunities that have come up this week.

1.  Buddy has volunteered to teach ESL at our local YMCA.  The staff was elated and told him that this YMCA is the most diverse one in the nation.  They said there is a tremendous  need for ESL classes. Our desire is to build relationships with internationals  and for opportunities to share our faith. Please pray that the YMCA will not set parameters on our classes that would hinder us from sharing the gospel.  Pray for the Lord to open doors of incredible ministry through the YMCA.

2.  We have a potential new partner and family who will be joining us this Sunday. The husband speaks two or three  languages and the wife speaks five languages.  They would be a tremendous asset to the work here if the Lord leads them to join us.  Pray for the Lord's will for this family and for our church.

3.  Our Iranian son, Masuod, has been given an opportunity to serve at an international Christian camp this summer!  We are so excited. Please pray that the Lord will use him in the lives of the campers and that he will grow in his faith as well.

4.  I (Melanie) have begun reading a wonderful book called, Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus by Nabeel Quresh. It has given me  a better understanding of the world of my Muslim ESL students.  This week, I shared with one of my students that I had begun reading the book. At first she was horrified that any Muslim would convert to Christianity, but after she recovered from the initial  shock, she asked why the person changed religions.  I told her that I had just begun to read the book but perhaps we could talk about it a little each week as I read through it.  Her response was, "That would be good."  Please pray that the Lord will give me wisdom on how and what to share each week.  Pray for Mrs. H to open her heart to the truth of the gospel.  Pray that the Lord would give her dreams and visions and reveal Himself to her.

5.  Thank you to those of you who support our ministry monthly through your prayers and gifts!  We couldn't do what we do here without you.  If you would like to join our financial support team, please drop me an email at melaniebrents@gmail.com and I will share with you how you can be a part of the team.

Have a wonderful week!! God is so good!

For His Glory,
Buddy, Melanie, Ashley, Adam, Masuod, and Avery

Greetings from Houston!

Thank you so much for praying for our family and  ministry here in Houston.  Everyday we see evidence that God has brought us here, and  we have confirmation that we are right where we are supposed to be. Here are a few highlights.

  • I (Melanie) began my new job yesterday teaching ESL to wives and children of international businessmen who are working  in Houston.  I have five students, three from Indonesia, one from Kuwait, and one from Russia.   The mother said that she hopes she will be able to convince me of the truths of Islam before we finish studying English.  She is a very strong Muslim and very much against Christianity.  Please pray that the Lord will work in Mrs. H's heart to see the truth of the gospel.  Pray that I will respond in love when she says things that often "push my buttons". Pray also for the salvation of  Mrs. F., Mr. H., Miss C.C., and Mrs. T.
  • Thank you for praying for additional piano students. Buddy continues to receive new students and all but one being from a country outside of America. Pray that we might be able to reach  these families and share the love of Christ.
  • Praise the Lord that He continues to provide for our family.  He is so faithful to take care of us!
  • Our little house church continues to grow in unity and vision as we meet together each week. We were able to spend a lovely time with our new Ethiopian friends last Saturday in their home. This is a wonderful Christian family who loves the Lord and shares our heart to see the nations reached in Houston.  Above is a picture of Avery with her new friends Abigail and Nathan.  Pray that God will continue to grow us as we share Christ and make disciples of the nations!
The Lord reminded me of a verse this week,  "A bruised reed he will not break; and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory.  In his name the nations will put their hope."  Matthew 12:20-21. That is what we long to see...people from all nations coming to know Jesus and seeing Him change their lives!  He is faithful and He will do it!  Thank you for praying!

For His Glory,

Buddy, Melanie, Ashley, Adam, Masuod, and Avery

PictureNations Church: Ethiopian, Iranian, Korean, & American.
The Lord is doing some amazing things here in Houston!  We now have a Korean family--Jonathan and Amy and their 3 children who will be partnering with us to start a new church. They currently live about 40 minutes away but will be moving to our neighborhood hopefully in July or August.  Please keep this sweet family in your prayers. They are a gift from the Lord and share our vision of seeing a multi-ethnic church started in Southwest Houston.

Jonathan was in Buddy's doctoral seminar class he went to a few weeks ago at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  He said that when Buddy shared with the class his vision for starting a network of 50 churches over the next 20 years, he felt the Lord was giving him a "Macedonian Call" to come and be a part of the work!  Praise the Lord!

A second family that came this week was a precious family from Ethiopia!  Ashley started a new job this past  week at a law firm here in Houston. She arrived early last Thursday and was having her quiet time in her car before she went in to work.  A man was in his car next to her. When she got out, he rolled down his window and said, "I saw you reading your Bible. I am reading mine too!" Ashley asked where he was from and he said, "Ethiopia!  This meeting is very Biblical isn't it!"  You may recall the story of Phillip and the Ethiopian in Acts. :)   Ashley was was able to invite him to our home for worship and he came yesterday with his wife and two children!  He is passionate about sharing his faith and we rejoice that the Lord has added another family to our little group. The picture above was taken this past Sunday.

Please continue to pray for us!  The Lord is so faithful to build HIS church.  We are grateful to play a small part in that!

Thank you for your partnership with us in the ministry here in Houston! Here are a few things we would appreciate your prayers for this week:
*Pray for Melanie as she has an interview on Friday, March 27th for an ESL teaching position.  Pray that the Lord will open this door if this is where he wants her to work.
*To help provide for our family,  Buddy is hoping to have several classes of piano students. Please pray that these classes will form in the next couple of weeks.
*Praise the Lord that He has provided jobs for Ashley, Adam, and Masuod!  (Ashley as a legal assistant at a law firm, Adam as a team leader at Chick-Fil a and Masuod as a cashier at Popeye's Chicken)
*Pray for us to be able to make connections with our neighbors that will give us opportunities to share our faith.
*Ask the Lord to continue to praise up prayer and financial supporters who will be  part of the ministry here.  If you are interested in financially supporting our ministry, please email us  at buddybrents@gmail.com and we can share more of how you can be  part of this ministry!
*Pray that our family will be a witness in all that we do!

Thank you all for your prayers!!  Please let us know how we can be praying for you as well!

For His Glory,
Buddy, Melanie, Ashley, Adam, Masuod, and Avery

We are told in the New Testament that "He (God) has made every nation of men to live all over the earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live..." (Acts 17:26).  We sense the Lord is moving our boundaries to Houston in an real tangible way.  We put our house on the market, and in only five days it sold.  That can only be seen as the work of God's hand in a time when the average house takes six months to sell.  We are excited about being servants in a new harvest field of over 340 people groups.

Please continue to pray with us:
1.  Our time line for enlisting a financial support team has greatly been shortened by the sell of our house.  Please pray for financial supporters to join us in this mission effort of reaching the nations in Houston, Texas.
2.  Pray for our emanate move to Houston, Texas.  It is looking like Melanie and the kids will move mid-February as soon as the sell of the house closes. I (Buddy) will follow a few weeks later.

Blessings,
Buddy & Melanie Brents

Dear Nations Church Planting Network Partner,

2014 has been an awesome year.  Many souls have come into the Kingdom, we finished our church plant, and an especially joyful note, the Lord blessed us with a new family member.  We believe 2015 is going to be an even better year with the start of a new ministry.

We are moving in May to Houston, Texas to begin multiple new church starts among the 340 people groups living in America's fourth largest city.  We are beginning a missionary church planting mobilization ministry that with focus on making disciples among the International Community.  This mobilization ministry is being called Nations Church Planting Network.  The Lord has given us a vision for seeing at least 50 new nations churches started in the next 20 year.  This can only be done by the Lord.  When it happens, no one person will be able to take credit for this will certainly be a God thing!  On the other hand, the Lord is bringing the nations to our door.  Missions is no longer just overseas, but in our own backyard and we need you as a partner.

Over the next five  months, the Brents are asking the Lord for ministry partners.  Before we make our physical move in May, we hope to enlist at least 80% of our team.  We need prayer partners, financial support partners, short-term volunteer teams for 2016, and short-term and long-term field partners.  Would you consider joining us?  The Lord has given us our first field partner and field church sponsor.  We need many more. If you are able to join as a partner, please email me at buddybrents@gmail.com.  We are so excited about the future!  The most diverse city in America is calling!  Let's go!

Happy New Year!
IN Christ,
Buddy, Melanie, Ashley, Adam, Masuod, & Avery
